Hasle Harbour Bath on Bornholm has been designed by White architects. The bath features as a distinctive element in the harbour environment with its characteristic triangular stair formation that looks like a ‘wing’ that opens towards the Baltic Sea.

“Some believe that it’s your wife who decides where you should sail, but believe me. It’s your children. We have guest boats that sail off only to return because it is more fun here than in the next harbour.” Jakob Jensen, Head of Operations for all 10 local harbours on Bornholm, NIRAS 2015

Identity

An evaluation prepared by NIRAS in 2015 shows that 87 % of the users in Hasle were satisfied or very satisfied with the harbour bath. The town highlights it as a special attraction. The users say that it is because of the unique architectural design of the harbour bath and the fact that the town does not have many other attractions. According to the evaluation, the users experience that the bath has helped put Hasle on the map, and many state that it has become a landmark for the town.

During the traditional parade in connection with ‘Sildefesten’ (Herring feast) in 2014, a miniature model of the harbour bath was pulled through the town on a wagon.

Quality of Life & Urban Life

According to the evaluation made by NIRAS in 2015, families with children are among the most frequent guests of Hasle Harbour Bath. Despite the fact that there are no play elements or any kind of water park features, the users find the place inspiring due to the distinctive design which, in their own words ‘encourage you to play and be active’. Hasle has truly become a destination, even for the locals on Bornholm.

About the case

Hasle Harbour Bath consists of a floating platform placed inside a system of piers. The shape of the harbour bath offers a distinctive element in the harbour environment with its characteristic triangular stair formation that looks like a ‘wing’ that opens towards the sea. Besides the stair formation, which is used for relaxing and diving, the basins with solid ground and fixed depth together with a ramp tie the facilities with the shore. A sauna building, toilet and changing rooms, lounge areas and steps for putting kayaks in the water can be found where the platform meets the shore.

Despite its somewhat remote location, the harbour bath is full of life during the warm months of the year and meeting facilities, holiday homes and the local harbour grill can be found within a short distance. The entire facility, which is open year round for the public, appears open and invites you to stay and be active.
