At Sydals you will find a circular summerhouse on a circular plot. Everything in the house is either built from recycled materials or designed to be reused again after the life of the building.

At the beginning of the project, architect and client agreed on a common mantra: reduce – reuse – recycle. High ambitions for a climate-friendly house have led to a proven choice of materials, and everything in the home is as far as possible either recycled, locally produced or handmade. That philosophy is reflected, among other things, in all the internal wooden cladding and built-in wooden interior, which is made of maple and forest cherry from the local area on the island of Southern Jutland.

"It's really healing architecture! I'm here as much as possible and just get so happy and calm in my beautiful, beautiful circular house that does something magical." Hanne, owner of the summer house, 2022

The layout of the small summerhouse of 96 m2 draws inspiration from nature and is based on the annual rings of a tree. From the center of the house emanates a series of lines - like those that occur when a slice of wood dries and the material splits. The lines divide the house into six rooms at an angle of 60 degrees. The center of the building is the bathroom. Built in surplus bricks from another building, it becomes the heart of the house, which can both absorb and release heat and moisture. The home's other rooms are all located facing nature, so that they each have a unique view of the scenic surroundings.
